The Rosecall is the student newspaper of Assumption High School, located at 2170 Tyler Lane in Louisville, Kentucky 40205. It is designed to inform students of happenings within the school as well as the world beyond. Stories are written to appeal primarily to students; however, faculty, staff, administrators, parents, and the community are also potential audiences. The newspaper is available online at www.rosecall.org and in print.

The Rosecall online is a wordpress blog in the “Aspire” theme.   The Rosecall is a member of the Kentucky High School Journalism Association, the National Scholastic Press Association, and Quill and Scroll.

Letters to the Editor are welcome and may be delivered to the Publications Office (Room 110) or given to any staff member. Comments may also be posted to rosecall.org.  Only comments from students with ahsrockets.org email address will be approved for publication. Comments should not exceed 250 words in length. The Rosecall may also be contacted by fax, (502) 454-8411 or telephone, (502) 458-9551.

All advertisements and editorials do not represent the opinions of Assumption High School, but rather are those of the writers or advertisers.

AWARDS

The staff of the Rosecall received the following awards from the Society of Professional Journalists at the Mark of Excellence Competition at Western Kentucky University, March 5, 2010

  • Best Overall Newspaper (Division AA/AAA)
  • Abby O’Bryan was named “Most Valuable Staffer” and won 2nd place in News/Features Photography
  • Allie Schmitt won 2nd place in Editorial Writing
  • Emma Willinger won 1st place in Editorial Cartooning
  • Rachel Aretakis won 1st place in Front Page Design and 1st place in News Writing
  • Rachel Gregor won 1st place in Features Writing
  • JoJo Brown won 1st place in Page Design
  • Kelly Dermody won 2nd place in Advertising Placement and Design
  • Maggie Wiesemann won 2nd place in Column/Review Writing
  • Stephanie Burry won 3rd place in Sports Writing and 3rd place in Sports Photography

Rachel Aretakis, News Editor, received an “Excellent’ in Newswriting from the National Scholastic Press Association Write-Off Competition held November 13, 2009 in Washington, DC. 

Last year, the staff of the Rosecall  won the following awards:

14 Rosecall students were inducted into Quill and Scroll, The International Honorary Society for high school journalists.

16 Rosecall students were inducted into the National Scholastic Press Association Honor Society.

 The Rosecall was awarded a silver medal by the Columbia Scholastic Press Association.

 In the Society of Professional Journalists Mark of Excellence  Competition:

  • Elizabeth Beilman –Most valuable newspaper staffer AND 1st place, Best Front Page Layout Designer
  • The staff of the Rosecall–1st place, Best High School Newspaper
